My good friend Shiloh (who I’ll probably refer to as Dale, as that’s what I call her) is having a baby boy in December. When we planned for her party to be in October I thought, “that’s so far away! I’m sure the house will be ready by then!” The good news is the house was no longer a construction zone but I would have liked to have had time to hang pictures (and curtains!)
I knew I wanted to decorate with baby clothes so I started looking at local kids’ resale stores in June and scored all the clothes you see hanging around for under $20!
I had visions of hanging them across the arch in the living room but NOTHING sticks to plaster! Tape wouldn’t stick and tacks bent without making a mark! So I made weird little hangers from pipe cleaners I had around and hung them off every hook and handle I could find!
Tulle and tissue paper poufs (thanks Pinterest!) were a cheap (I spent under $10 for all the supplies) way to move the colors around the house and made clean up much easier! Streamers are cute but a huge pain to take down! (I’m not lazy, just house tired!)
I love these paper straws more than any normal person should!
I was afraid that balloons on my mailbox would pop (there are a lot of jagged edges) so I went and got a $3 pumpkin from the grocery store, tied the balloons to the stem and set in on the front steps!
Looking at his picture makes me think I should have made more food. I never know how much to get and while I love having leftovers, I’m just one person! If I buy food expecting 30 people and only 10 come that’s A LOT of leftovers for me to get through! I made the chicken salad and the olive cheese bread (from The Pioneer Woman) but let the store do all the other work for me. (PS-make the olive cheese bread, it’s AMAZING!) Store bought rolls, salsas and hummus, chips and crackers and a bowl of pickles came together fast and the veggies and ranch (and the unpictured cheesecake stuffed strawberries that will haunt my dreams!) were brought by sweet Kristel.
The cake was made by our friend Stacey and it was delicious! My favorite was the sweet little shoes on top though!
The best part was I had everything cleaned up quickly (little girls playing with the balloons helped!) and Dale and I did the dishes while she waited for her husband to come pick her up.
I’m hosting Bunko at my house on Wednesday and then I should be done with parties for a little while (unless anyone else needs a baby shower! 🙂 )
