Week 22

(The walls look pinkish/tan in these pictures but I swear the color reads as white when you’re in there!)

My friend Tim took these lights and fans out of his house and gave them to me!  I’m going to put the fans in both bedrooms but I don’t know where I want the chandeliers yet… any suggestions?

Image

Moving and reusing these frames has finally done them in.  The cardboard picture hangers are barely hanging on and one finally gave out.  I think I might add new frames for this wall to my IKEA list…

Image

Image

Image

Image

ImageThe hallway is still the same but it occurred to me that I’ve never shown you what this hall looks like with the doors closed:

Image

Not hot.  Add three new doors and hardware to my list of things to do!

Image

Image

I took down the beadboard in here to prepare for the new stuff, which I hope to get this weekend!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Other than my new monster TV (a birthday present from my parents) there’s not a lot going on in here.

Image

Image

Image

I’m so sick of that brown duvet that I’m determined to replace it ASAP!

Image

This room wasn’t without a little love this week-I made that 3D butterfly art and I cleaned out my craft closet:

Image

Image

I didn’t have time to do much in here this week but wait til you see my bedroom!

Image

That TV on the floor is broken so it’s waiting to be loaded up and taken to Best Buy where they will apparently give me $10 for recycling!

Image

Image

Image

Those As are getting painted (I haven’t decided what colors yet) and I’m still looking for more frames for this wall.  I also moved the chair into my closet for Henry and he seems to love it!

Image

Image

I’m also really loving my bed here.  It’s easier to make and I like that I can open my curtains again!

Image

Image

I love that rearraging made this room feel new again and it has inspired me to start working on my basement (pictures coming soon!) and start planning for Spring!

Spending a gift card

My Aunt Louise sent me a gift card last month and I only hesitated for one minute when it came to spending it.

To m the perfect gift is one you wouldn’t buy for yourself so I tried to think of things I really wanted but kept talking myself out of.

Enter Hobby Lobby.

Image

Image

I’m not usually one to hang Biblical sayings around my house but I really liked this one.

Image

Just to be clear, I don’t know if this is true but I really love it!

Image

Finally this one is hanging above the closet in my entryway but I don’t know if it’ll stay there.  I’m thinking it might also be cute above the arch in my living room or on the wall between my laundry room and kitchen.

So thank you Aunt Louise for brightening my home from so far away!

On another note-this is my 70th post!  I’m thinking of something big for my 100th but you’ll only be in the running for it if you comment on any post between now and then!  🙂

Bloggers Closet

Have you seen this yet?  I love, love, love the idea!  It’s like an online thrift store but one where only fashionable people take their stuff to.

This

This

This

And this

make me really want to shop this site.  I also really want to have my own closet!  Sure I’m a DIY blogger and not a fashion blogger but I dress up!  Take the third Wednesday of every month when I go play Bunko.  Annnnnnndd when ever I’m not wearing a polo and jeans at work.  Or grubby clothes to sand/paint/clean something.  Anyways I like to look nice and wear cute clothes and sell said cute clothes to make room for more cute clothes!

But here are my hesitations:

1.  Their sizing seems crazy to me.  A size 12=XL?

2.  Also, don’t try to find any XL dresses, shirts, pants, etc… (not to mention clothes for women who really are an XL) because there aren’t any listed.  None.

3.  Would they even accept my application (when there are openings, of course) to have a closet with mostly sensibly priced items? Think less Kate Spade and more Target.

Does anyone know of a similar site that isn’t specifically aimed at twig bitches (name the movie (one of my faves!) no offense!)?  Now that I’ve started running (Couch to 5K week 3 here I come!) I’d like a place to sell my cute bigger stuff and replace it with cute smaller stuff!

The point of this post is:

it’s a boring Sunday and I’m alone at work

I want everyone to know that I’m a runner now

12 does not = XL

I want to make money selling stuff cluttering up my house so I can buy new stuff to clutter my house 😉

January Thrift

I’m not proud of how I’ve slacked in the thrifting category this month.  I have very few things to show and nothing in its original form…Image

Image

I was so excited to find all of these frames ($4 for the lot of ’em!) that I got them home and immediately put a coat of paint on them…Stay tuned for next week’s update-they should be in their final homes by then.Image

These lanterns were a real steal at $16! One has candles and the other is empty, for now. 😦Image

Not pictured are the white shelves I hung over my bed.  I got those for $16 too!

I’m heading to the big city in a couple weeks for a thrift trip for my birthday and then making a trip to the even bigger city to see family and friends in March.  Oh, and also IKEA.  And Trader Joe’s. And I want to find a Homegoods…

Week 21

This week I’m saving the laundry room for last 🙂

Image

Image

ImageNot a lot going on in the kitchen this week.  Aside from a few new things on the walls and my new panini obsession this room hasn’t seen a lot of love.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Craft trash has overflowed into my living room this week and I just didn’t want to clean it up.  Between a project in my bedroom and working things out in my laundry room I don’t want to keep putting stuff away and getting it back out again.  Okay, I’m lazy, but I live alone so it doesn’t matter. 🙂

Image

I’m sure you’ve been wondering about the entryway-it’s still there but not a lot has changed.

Image

Image

Nothing has really changed in here although I have been thinking about it a lot.  I think I’ve figured out a way to get that beadboard up without my dad’s help.  It may involve a friend with a truck (feel free to call me up!) but once the supplies are at my house I think I can do it myself!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Nope.  Haven’t straightened those frames or painted that red container.  Or gotten a new duvet cover.  Or painted the head and foot boards for in here.  Or finished hanging stuff up.  Or gotten a lamp for the other side of the bed.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Okay, still a mess but maybe getting better??  I’m really happy with the shelves over my bed (I know they’re not level but it’s the closest I could get) and the banners over my dresser but on top of my dresser? Gross.  I don’t know if I need better storage or to start just putting stuff away but I’m sick of it!  I’m still working on stuff for over the table on the small wall-it should be done by next week!

Image

Image

Here’s a close up of what’s on those shelves.  I made that cute magazine shred art last night and behind it is another paper craft I did a few weeks ago and a ceiling medallion from Lowe’s that I got on clearance for $5.00.

Image

Okay, for reals, next week I’m tackling this!

Image

The shelves are all painted and I’m working on filling them up!  So far I’ve got some cookbooks and recipes on the left there and the baskets are holding pet food, brushes, etc, ice melt and hats and gloves.

Image

Image

Yes, there’s still a drop-and-go corner but I’m hoping that’ll be resolved soon.  My plan is to keep Prudie’s food on top of the shelves and to move that table to the basement.  Then I’ll be able to move the recycling bins to the corner.  Once that’s done I’m sure I’ll be motivated to take the compressor and other miscellaneous stuff to the basement.

Image

Yep, cat food all over the table and random paint stuff cluttering the place up.

Image

I bought this white and grey fabric a year (maybe more??) ago and originally intended to cover a chair with it.  Then I got a dog whose footprints and fur are e v e r y w h e r e and decided it would make better curtains instead.

Image

Image

And finally the piece that makes the room!  This $20 Family Dollar lamp was a total fluke but I picked it up and (paid for it) ran!

So there you have it-probably the last wrap up with any kind of drastic changes.  It’s a little bittersweet.  While I’m happy to not be living around projects any more I’m also kind of sad.  Is that crazy?

Why I Love/Hate Etsy

I love Etsy, except that it messes with my mind.

For example:

I see this

Beef Chart Art Print, Chefs Wall Decor, Rustic, Distressed Cow, Steer, Cattle, Western

and think, “yes, a cool country kitchen that’s kind of rustic and kind of weird.”

Then I see this

SAN FRANCISCO Travel Poster, Retro Pop Artwork, Giclee Fine Art Print, Home Decor, Wall Art (blue version)

combined with these

Explore Kauai - Series - 12 x 18 Retro Hawaii Prints

and I think, “oooh, what a cool idea for a travel wall in the kitchen”

Then I see this

A Party Without Cake Is Just a Meeting /// Julia Child Quote /// Art Print

and say, “Yes!  That’s it!  I’ll do a cool kithceny kitchen with fun quotes and kitchen art like this!”

Kitchen Print - Measurement Chart - Kitchen Typography

So basically Etsy has convinced me that I need a bigger house with three kitchens.

Don’t even get me started on the other rooms!
