Week 43!

I believe the last time I did an update was waaaaaay back at Week 25.  Whoops!

Let’s start with the laundry room:

laundry2

I’ve kind of just taken a “dump and go” approach in here.  Everything starts in this room and then eventually gets put away in the room it belongs in.

laundry1

Hanging those hooks over the stairs has saved my sanity!  I’m no longer tripping over my mop or broom and it’s no more steps to retrieve supplies from here.

laundry3

While in Portland, OR I was inspired by a display at Powell’s.  They hung pictures from a grid of wires so they were super easy to switch out and move around.  This is more modern than I normally like but I like that I can display my travel pictures (and postcards!) and it’s not a pain to hang up new ones when I get them.

kitchen4kitchen3kitchen2

Is there anything different in here?  I don’t even remember at this point!  You get a glimpse of the base cove in that first picture and you may notice a new bucket of succulents on the counter by the sink! 🙂

hall1

I fell in love with this shelf and I feel like I’ve had it in every room of the house but it finally feels at home here!  I love the pictures of my grandmas leaning and I love that it give me a little more dimension in this tiny hall!

bath2bath1  The hall bath is mostly the same.  The only new addition is this card I framed on my little gallery wall.  I promise next week I’ll take better pictures!

guest3guest2guest1

I’m finally happy with the mirror and frames above the bed!  I’m working of finding black and white pictures of my friends to fill up these 6 frames.  I also got a rug for in here-$19.99 at Ross.  It’s double the size you see here and it’s really just laziness that has kept me from moving it down to the foot of the bed and centering it.  Hopefully next week!  My new duvet cover arrived late Thursday so I hope you’re looking forward to seeing it in place in week 44!

mbed8mbed6mbed5

mbed4mbed1 I did move some stuff around in here to accommodate my new dresser (thanks to a friend moving!) and to clear a space in front of the window for the air conditioner (thanks dad!)  I also used clothes pins to hang up the bottom of the curtains.  I wanted to close them but they were so heavy they blocked all the air!  This is a perfect solution until I get blinds!

mbed2

I also gussied up my little duck bust with some pearls and paper flowers.  Love him!

mb1

My bathroom is the same….except there’s a succulent in that painted basket.

lr7lr6lr1

I got a cool new shelf at a yard sale for $15 so I had to move the bookshelves by the buffet (love them here!)

lr5lr3lr4

See her there?  I tested out a dark brown paint and don’t love it.  I don’t like the finish on it now, but I feel like if I paint/stain it it needs to match my other furniture.  I also think maybe I can get away with a color?  Like some leftover Hale Navy??

entry2entry1And the entryway.  I like the plant stand here-just not turquoise, I don’t think.  I also love displaying this silhouette I did of my house (and pine tree!)

That’s my house this week.  It feels good to post an update-hopefully I can keep it up!

Week 24

I missed Week 23.  I’m sorry.  Truth me told, I didn’t even try to take pictures…whoops!

Laundry Room

Image

Image

This corner is better but not great.  The extra stuff did go to the basement but I’m still wishing for something to put over those recycling bins to make them less of an eye sore.

Image

Neither of these rugs are new.  The door mat was in my entryway but matched this room better so I moved it in here.  The flowered rug I got when I lived in Albuquerque (from World Market) and it’s been hanging over my fence for the last month.  I finally got around to cleaning it up and brought it in here.  It’s too thick to put right in front of the door but luckily I think it looks good with the kitchen colors and it provides one last place to wipe feet before going into the main part of the house.

Kitchen

Image

The only thing I did in here this week was hang up that Kauai print.

Hallway

Image

I didn’t realize how much I would love a rug here until I got one (err, two.)  I love this pattern and the color is perfect so I bought two rugs ($8.77 each) from Wal-Mart and plan to sew them together to make them runner length.

Bathroom

I still haven’t put the bead board up.  Yet.  I will.  Soon. Really.

Guest Room

I’m not sold on this lamp here.  I moved it from my living room (where the orange lamp is cute) to here and I just don’t think it works.  It’s too big and too dark.  I think it’s going into the yard sale pile.

Yay!  Finally some decoration that I LIKE!

Still to come this week are a review of my Pinterest Party and a change up in a room so simple I’m ashamed I didn’t think of it sooner!

Week 22

Image

Image

Image

(The walls look pinkish/tan in these pictures but I swear the color reads as white when you’re in there!)

My friend Tim took these lights and fans out of his house and gave them to me!  I’m going to put the fans in both bedrooms but I don’t know where I want the chandeliers yet… any suggestions?

Image

Moving and reusing these frames has finally done them in.  The cardboard picture hangers are barely hanging on and one finally gave out.  I think I might add new frames for this wall to my IKEA list…

Image

Image

Image

Image

ImageThe hallway is still the same but it occurred to me that I’ve never shown you what this hall looks like with the doors closed:

Image

Not hot.  Add three new doors and hardware to my list of things to do!

Image

Image

I took down the beadboard in here to prepare for the new stuff, which I hope to get this weekend!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Other than my new monster TV (a birthday present from my parents) there’s not a lot going on in here.

Image

Image

Image

I’m so sick of that brown duvet that I’m determined to replace it ASAP!

Image

This room wasn’t without a little love this week-I made that 3D butterfly art and I cleaned out my craft closet:

Image

Image

I didn’t have time to do much in here this week but wait til you see my bedroom!

Image

That TV on the floor is broken so it’s waiting to be loaded up and taken to Best Buy where they will apparently give me $10 for recycling!

Image

Image

Image

Those As are getting painted (I haven’t decided what colors yet) and I’m still looking for more frames for this wall.  I also moved the chair into my closet for Henry and he seems to love it!

Image

Image

I’m also really loving my bed here.  It’s easier to make and I like that I can open my curtains again!

Image

Image

I love that rearraging made this room feel new again and it has inspired me to start working on my basement (pictures coming soon!) and start planning for Spring!

Week 21

This week I’m saving the laundry room for last 🙂

Image

Image

ImageNot a lot going on in the kitchen this week.  Aside from a few new things on the walls and my new panini obsession this room hasn’t seen a lot of love.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Craft trash has overflowed into my living room this week and I just didn’t want to clean it up.  Between a project in my bedroom and working things out in my laundry room I don’t want to keep putting stuff away and getting it back out again.  Okay, I’m lazy, but I live alone so it doesn’t matter. 🙂

Image

I’m sure you’ve been wondering about the entryway-it’s still there but not a lot has changed.

Image

Image

Nothing has really changed in here although I have been thinking about it a lot.  I think I’ve figured out a way to get that beadboard up without my dad’s help.  It may involve a friend with a truck (feel free to call me up!) but once the supplies are at my house I think I can do it myself!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Nope.  Haven’t straightened those frames or painted that red container.  Or gotten a new duvet cover.  Or painted the head and foot boards for in here.  Or finished hanging stuff up.  Or gotten a lamp for the other side of the bed.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Okay, still a mess but maybe getting better??  I’m really happy with the shelves over my bed (I know they’re not level but it’s the closest I could get) and the banners over my dresser but on top of my dresser? Gross.  I don’t know if I need better storage or to start just putting stuff away but I’m sick of it!  I’m still working on stuff for over the table on the small wall-it should be done by next week!

Image

Image

Here’s a close up of what’s on those shelves.  I made that cute magazine shred art last night and behind it is another paper craft I did a few weeks ago and a ceiling medallion from Lowe’s that I got on clearance for $5.00.

Image

Okay, for reals, next week I’m tackling this!

Image

The shelves are all painted and I’m working on filling them up!  So far I’ve got some cookbooks and recipes on the left there and the baskets are holding pet food, brushes, etc, ice melt and hats and gloves.

Image

Image

Yes, there’s still a drop-and-go corner but I’m hoping that’ll be resolved soon.  My plan is to keep Prudie’s food on top of the shelves and to move that table to the basement.  Then I’ll be able to move the recycling bins to the corner.  Once that’s done I’m sure I’ll be motivated to take the compressor and other miscellaneous stuff to the basement.

Image

Yep, cat food all over the table and random paint stuff cluttering the place up.

Image

I bought this white and grey fabric a year (maybe more??) ago and originally intended to cover a chair with it.  Then I got a dog whose footprints and fur are e v e r y w h e r e and decided it would make better curtains instead.

Image

Image

And finally the piece that makes the room!  This $20 Family Dollar lamp was a total fluke but I picked it up and (paid for it) ran!

So there you have it-probably the last wrap up with any kind of drastic changes.  It’s a little bittersweet.  While I’m happy to not be living around projects any more I’m also kind of sad.  Is that crazy?

-A

Week 20

Oh man!  Four months!  I can’t believe it!

Also, you’re not crazy: there was no Week 19.

I’m going to start out with the laundry room, as usual, but today you only get a sneak peek.  Big changes happened in here but I want to save them for a post of their own.

Image

Image

I also finally have the beginnings of my travel wall.  I’m not thrilled with the blue paint on those frames but my friend (who is a great artist!) said she likes it so it might stay.  I AM thrilled with the pictures inside the frames.  I had my first experience with Shutterfly and was worried that my pictures wouldn’t crop correctly, or the colors would be off, or the package would never come!  But they look great and came faster than I expected!  I’m excited to go more places to take more pictures to add to the wall.

Image

Image

(oh Prudie!)

Image

I did get a second big frame but haven’t done anything with it.  I have a print that I got on a vacation to Seattle years ago and I want another print to put in the second frame.  I’m thinking this, or this, both places I’ve been and loved.

Image

Image

I blew up another of my pictures of Kauai (Lydgate Park) and hung it in here.  I’m thinking about blowing up two more REALLY big to hang on the wall above the beadboard.

Image

Image

Image

Those frames aren’t hanging straight and it’s driving me crazy.  Hopefully I’ll have time this week to figure out why.

Here’s close up (although not very good) of the pictures on the end.

Image

This is my mom, me and my aunt Angie at the UNM campus while we were in Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta.  My boyfriend at the time took it before we (or so we thought) were ready.  It’s one of my favorites.

Image

This is me and my friend Marni at her wedding reception.  What I love is I didn’t know she was laughing until later when I looked through the pictures.

I’m hoping to have another opportunity to take a laughing picture with someone soon so I can fill that third frame.

Image

Image

Image

My bedroom is a hot mess right now.  I can’t seem to get things right in here but I’m hoping the gems I found at the thrift stores this week will change that.  This is quickly becoming Priority Number One.  I can’t take it any more!

Image

Image

And still no art up in here.  Another goal this week is to move that shelf and get pictures up on that wall.

Right now I’m wishing I had that Week 2 energy at Week 20-everything would be done!

This week I have posts planned covering step two in the laundry room make over and a recap of the Hollywood Game Night I threw last night.  If I can sneak in a thrifting update I’ll be happy.

Week 18 (mostly)

I’m usually so excited to take my weekly pictures…but not this week.  That’s why you have pictures from Week 18+.  It took me 3 days to get pictures of the whole house so these were taken Tuesday (end of Week 18)-Thursday (beginning of Week 19.)

Image

Image

Image

Image

This is the laundry room in progress.  The paint is up but at this point I was still getting stuff situated.  I’m happy with the “Henry Corner” over there and he seems to enjoy it too.

Image

Image

Image

Image

As I’m sure you can see, the laundry room mess moved into the kitchen this week.  The ladder will eventually live in the basement but I need it for so many projects that I’d rather work around it than haul it up and down stairs all the time.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

As you can see Christmas is gone and I’m moving stuff around to fill in the decorative gaps.

Image

Image

As it turns out my brother DOES read my blog (hi Sam!) and wasn’t very excited about hanging the bead board in the bathroom.  It’s hard to blame him as his job has crazy hours and he’s working on his Master’s Degree so he wanted to hang out and not work.  I decided to take the project into my own hands and hung it up myself.  It’s not good.  I pieced together the boards from the kitchen and they didn’t go together so well.  Now I’m thinking I’ll find another use for the scraps and just buy a new piece for in here.

Image

Image

Image

Image

I spent a lot of time working on these frames.  I love the gold painted ones but the small burlap ones took me f o r e v e r!  First I spray painted them white but it was too stark.  Then I covered them in scrapbook paper but the 12×12 sheets weren’t big enough.  Then I saw the burlap and hot glued it on to these babies and the rest is history!  Hanging them has been a problem.  It’s either my uneven walls or the fact that I don’t measure anything but either way they won’t hang straight.

Image

Image

I know I say this every week but this time I REALLY think I have things figured out in here.  This shelf isn’t staying here (I’m going to move it  above the doorway) and I’m going to use a gift card from my wonderful Aunt Louise to buy the big IKEA frames that I love.  My mom won’t love the art I put in them but I’m pretty excited!

Image

Image

Image

I’m just feeling bothered by my bedroom these days.  I want a cushy, comfy, pretty room and I feel like it’s a jumbled mess right now.  Maybe a trip to a thrift store will inspire me. 🙂

Now that I’m caught up I can’t wait to share some of the other stuff I’ve been working on with you!
